Marefumi Komaru

z.jpg

Marefumi Komaru is a painter who is most well known for his portraits which had been provoked from the earthquake and tsunami devastation which occurred in Japan 2011. Komaru has felt a need to refocus his paintings towards ever-present and universal themes of fragility and beauty that hide within our existence. Although I work predominantly in sculptural installations, I felt that the need to revise Komaru’s works in terms of refocusing the human being in a different light: making them look worn out, distressed and in agony as apposed to nature which is usually the one being portrayed in this manner.
